In the whirlwind of 2020, my life took unexpected turns — from the joy of marriage to the challenges of job uncertainties amidst the global pandemic. This rollercoaster journey led me to discover new opportunities, transforming my career from a software engineer with an old tool to a Cloud Data Engineer.
Navigating Challenges:
Amidst visa arrangements for my wife and COVID disruptions, I faced job loss but seized the chance with my basic skills in Python, eventually landing a 3-month ETL project. Fueled by determination, I immersed myself in data engineering courses, prepping for a brighter future.
Turning Point:
A pivotal moment arrived when I got an interview scheduled for a data engineering position. With only 2 months experience in data engineering I managed to clear the technical assignment. But I messed up the technical interview, after a failed interview, a second opportunity arose within my current company. With my current learning I cleared the interview which transformed me to a Cloud Developer role, I tackled unfamiliar territory, honing my skills in infrastructure development. The next two years were a testament to my growth within the team.
Adapting to Change:
Organizational restructuring brought uncertainty again, yet this time, I embraced it with composure. Swiftly assigned to another team, my journey continued as a Cloud Data Engineer — a role encompassing both data services management and infrastructure creation through code.
Embracing the Positive:
Reflecting on this transformative journey, I’ve come to appreciate the sweetness that follows the bitterness of change. A once-old software tool became the stepping stone to a dynamic career in cloud engineering.
The key lesson learned?
Deserving individuals can turn any change into a pathway to success.
